Although the Westfield Town Council repeatedly asserted that the Sycamore and Central Intersection was safe without a crossing guard and that it did not have the funds for a crossing guard, the Town Coucil admitted that it was a mistake to remove the crossing guard and restored the crossing guard within budget.
Also in 2010, Matt Sontz and his neighbors circulated a petition to Move the Central Avenue Pedestrian Crossing to a location that makes sense. Matt Sontz presented that petition to the town council in December, 2010. The debate on the Central Avenue Pedestrian Crossing continues.
Matt Sontz has been to and spoken at many Westfield Town Council meetings regarding issues such as:
Restoring the crossing guard at Park Street and Central Avenue
Restoring the crossing guard at Grove Street and Central Avenue
Moving the Central Avenue Pedestrian Crossing to a location that makes
sense
Ending the practice of the town council giving full time pensions to part-time
employees
Stopping the speeders that endanger our neighborhoods
Providing better neighborhood security
Repairing and maintaining our roads
Matt is looking forward to continuing to volunteer his time and energy towards improving Westfield as much as he can.
